I have been a Zumba Instructor for almost two years. I became a Zumba Instructor because I love to dance and sincerely want to help people to feel better about themselves in the best way that I can!! I will be the first to admit, I am not a dancer, I've never danced before but I've always been fortunate to have a little rhythm! Being a Zumba Instructor, I am finally able to do a workout that suits me. I like to challenge my class to bring their own individuality to their workout and I encourage them to have their own rhythm. If you don't feel like you can dance, NO PROBLEM! That's what I'm here for and that is what I love about my job. I break down the moves and make them simplistic! I love being a Zumba Instructor because it's finally something I love to do and can stick with through the ins and outs of life. I got into being a Zumba Instructor by merely wanting something more from my workouts! I live for the party, a.k.a. ZUMBA!! It keeps me motivated and determined. Zumba definitely has a permanent and important place in my life. I'm so lucky I can share it with other people. I love to help people break through their barriers, challenge themselves and most of all make them feel good about themselves! You may think you can't take this workout seriously but I challenge you to join my class and tell me what you think when class is over! I truly and sincerely hope you will join me!!!
I've been teaching early morning Indoor Cycling here at GRFC for 9 years! I also teach Body Buff and Body Boot Camp. I have two indoor cycling certifications; one through Schwinn and the other is a Spin certification. Come check out my classes! I'd love to have you!!
I am the Instructor bringing back an old favorite, Step and Tone!! I’ve been an instructor for many, many years. I instruct off and on for the GR fitness club to fill in for our Body Blast class. My prior teaching experience includes working at the YMCA in Salem and a Portland club. I took training from Nike & from a private personal trainer and gained the best of the best experience. I’m currently an attorney in La Grande and I’ve worked out at GRFitness (as a member!!) since I moved here in 2000.... best club in town!!! My daughter Emma is 35, she used to run marathons & I watched!!! I have never been a runner, but in high school played on hockey & netball teams!!! My class is a surefire way to get sweat, tone and BURN More and More calories!! Step has always been one of the best workouts you can ever do for your body! I’m excited to bring it back and remind us all why we loved this classic workout in the first place!
I have been teaching group fitness classes for 20+ years. This is a passion of mine to keep my self healthy and fit and to help others do the same. Grande Ronde Fitness Club has become my 2nd home. It is a great way to start my day.
In my water aerobic class we stretch and warm up before we go into our cardiovascular work out which. The cardiovascular section last 30 minutes and is followed by a cool down and stretching. Working in the water is a great way to get into shape, improve your balance and tone your muscles without the impact on your joints. Working in the water helps people with arthritis, knee problems, shoulder problems and back problems. I have a lady in my class who has lost 38 lbs. and another lady who is now able to go off some of her heart medications. Everybody needs exercise and this is a great way to start your day.
I also teach Young _ Heart. Young _ Heart is a slower paced floor class that uses your own bodies resistance, range of motion and balance to enhance your stretching, toning and flexibility. Excellent for any age group!
My family & I moved to La Grande about two and a half years ago and have been at GRFC that long. I have been spinning for ten years and also enjoy running, swimming, and triathlons. I love the camaraderie & shared motivation that comes with group fitness classes. If you want to encourage me to encourage you then come on in and spin. Spinning is an excellent low-impact high-intensity workout that lets you control your exertion level. In one 45 minute class you have the potential to burn up to 500 calories. Let’s Ride!
I am so excited to be your Body WX Instructor. I have always loved being active and am an avid hiker, rafter, and snowboarder. In my early twenties I began as the motivation for my friends and family by creating workout regimens for everyone to follow and do together. From there I became involved at Grande Ronde Fitness Club instructing Turbo Kick. After college I took a break from spending so much time in the gym and now I completely regret it! I now vow to live a healthy lifestyle and help others to do the same. I feel I have come full circle and I am very excited to again be a part of the Grande Ronde Fitness Club.
There is nothing more that I love than to help others and myself improve our quality of life. Join my class for an upbeat, mat workout that will tone the core and every muscle through our own body’s resistance and an incorporation of kettlebell!! I will get in, exhaust the muscles and move onto the next muscle group. All you need is your positive attitude and your best effort!!
Fitness has always been important to me, I was a dancer for over 12yrs, played sports in high school, and have always lived a very active lifestyle. My family and I just recently moved to La Grande and I couldn’t think of a better way to meet great people who are as enthusiastic about their health as I am. I am extremely excited to be your body sculpting instructor. I want everyone in my class to experience heightened energy, a positive mindset, a feeling of achievement, and yes of course push you to your limits and challenge your bodies in ways you’ve never thought possible. We will incorporate the use of dumbbells, your body’s own resistance, barbells, and plyometrics to exhaust every muscle group. I promise when you take my class, life will become easier, because when you increase the amount of muscle in your body, daily activities go from strenuous to effortless, plus – you will make your cardio workouts more effective and burn more calories if you have more muscle. So, come join me and let’s get sculpted! Tuesday’s classes _ 5:30 will target upper body and core, Thursday’s classes _ 5:30 will target lower body and core, and Saturday classes at 10:30 will ignite the whole body! See you in class! “the burn”!
I have been with the fitness club for a few years as a Yoga Instructor. I have been teaching Yoga for over 20 years. I relocated to La Grande and started teaching yoga at GRFC in the late 1990's and then in other locations until 2000. The opportunity became available again for me to teach at GRFC in 2006. I emphasize in my classes on doing what you "can do" not what "you cant." Patience and consistency are where progress begins and the bodies capabilities change each day. The class also focuses on the importance of breathing.
I am the new PiYo™ Instructor for the GR Fitness Club! I am a Mom of a wonderful little boy and I am loving the idea of teaching such a great class!! If you have been to this class than you know there aren't many cardio classes that can beat this workout for the most calories burned and highest energy exhausted! I have been part of the Grande Ronde Fitness Club team since 2007 as an Indoor Cycling Instructor. I am currently getting certified as a personal trainer and hope to certify in kickboxing in the near future. Staying fit and helping others do the same is just part of who I am.
I am a new turbo kick instructor for Grande Ronde Fitness! From the first time I tried turbo kick I was hooked! Not only is it a total body work out, it is so fun you never get bored, and before you know it you have blasted up to ONE THOUSAND CALORIES!! After going to many turbo classes I became very interested in teaching this incredible workout, as well as sharing my passion of health and fitness to others. I have a sincere interest in helping people reach their fitness goals and love to push and encourage people to their full potential. TURBO KICK™: allows me to do just that! As for my other career, I am a wild land firefighter for the La Grande Interagency Hotshot Crew and absolutely love it! I chose this profession because it requires me to be in the best shape I can be in and allows me to work in the great outdoors! Individuals are pushed to their limits every day physically and mentally and are taught that through hard work and dedication anything is possible. I am so excited to have had the opportunity to become a turbo kick instructor for Grande Ronde Fitness! I know you have what it takes to challenge your body and reach those fitness goals! Come join the party they call TURBO KICK™. I can’t wait to see you!!
My husband and I moved to La Grande from Pendleton in 2007. We have been longtime participants in physical activity and love to be outdoors riding bikes, skiing or white water rafting. Swimming and yoga have also been an important part of my life because it allows me to continue being active in the outdoors. In 2003, I taught yoga classes when I managed a women's fitness center in Pendleton, OR. I am excited for the opportunity to lead an exercise class again and bring my experience of fitness and yoga to water aerobics. I hope to encourage others to exercise in a way that motivates them so that everyone can pursue what they love in life!

Josh Dalton:
I started studying Martial Arts when I was 16 yrs. old. I studied Taekwondo for two yrs. with Black Belt Instructor Ben Bauding in La Grande, OR. While I enjoyed Taekwondo with it’s multiple fast kick combinations and it’s intricate katas (or forms), I decided the practicality and the reality of its functions were inferior to the knowledge I was seeking at the time in my Martial Arts studies. While training one day I had heard of a style from Thailand called Muay Thai or Thai Boxing. Muay Thai appealed to me very much because its mechanics are not complex. The movements of Muay Thai are much simpler to learn and apply in real life scenarios with self-defense or competition. This was much more important to me in my Martial Arts studies than practicing katas. My reasoning is that katas represented a premeditated fight scenario where a person practices a traditionally copied placement of footwork, blocks and attacks. For example, a fight is never the same as the last fight and no two fights are identical. Training this way didn’t make sense to me. I then concentrated my Martial Arts studies to Muay Thai, which is very similar to western boxing in that boxing has two attacking limbs and the angles to target that can be applied. Muay Thai takes that concept to an even higher level by adding six more weapons to a person’s self-defense arsenal, two knees, two kicks, two elbows and two hands. This concept gives a person more adaptability in a realistic scenario.
I started training in Muay Thai in 2000 and I’ve studied for nearly twelve years. My first trainer in Muay Thai was mike Walrath in Eugene, OR. I studied under Mike through the Thai Boxing Association for four years. Later I changed my instructor to Kobb Sitongs who helped me compete internationally and here in the United States. In 2008 I traveled to Southeast Asia and trained at the Busaba Muay Thai camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand. After I returned home I instructed Muay Thai in Eugene, OR, Boise, ID and Pendleton, OR. I hope to help others understand their true potential through Martial Arts and I hope others will enjoy Muay Thai as much as I have.
Muay Thai: Muay Thai is a form of Martial Arts that utilizes techniques including kicks, punches and the extensive use of knees and elbows. “Muay Thai is often referred to as the science of 8 limbs.” To call this class a workout class would be a huge discredit to what this class is all about. This is a class that will work your body and your mind while teaching you strong self-defense. It is a complete and full body workout. We couldn’t be luckier to have a Specialty class like this to offer as a means to lose weight, tone and work the body to its core. It WILL challenge you no matter what age, body type or level you may be this class is definitely for you. Also, if interested you may sign up for one-on-one personal training sessions
